Reach Out and Read program
New Bern Ridge Pediatrics has one of only a few Reach Out and Read programs in Wake County. Doctors, nurse practitioners and medical staff incorporate Reach Out and Read's evidence-based model into regular pediatric well-visits by advising parents about the importance of reading aloud and giving developmentally-appropriate books to children. In the exam room, doctors and nurses speak with parents about the importance of reading aloud to their young children every day, and offer age-appropriate tips and encouragement. The pediatric primary care provider gives every child 6 months through 5 years of age a new, developmentally-appropriate book to take home and keep. Learn more here.

General Dentistry for Children
Baby's first tooth? Time to see the dentist!
Start early. Healthy teeth help your child's whole body. Tooth decay is an infection. In fact, it's the #1 chronic disease in children.
The good news is, it's PREVENTABLE. Start good dental habits in early childhood to prevent more serious health problems later in life.
Take your child to the dentist when you see the first tooth, or by age 1. We welcome MEDICAID and NC HEALTH CHOICE.
A message from Shelly Rickert, DDS:
I am proud to announce a renewed focus in New Bern Ridge Family Dental on prevention and education for children and teens —from baby’s first tooth to age 19. Since 2008, we have focused on dental care for children in response to what we believe is a serious threat to children’s health. Dental decay is the # 1 childhood disease, 5 times more prevalent than asthma; over 50% of children enter kindergarten with cavities. With mounting evidence of the connection between gum disease and heart disease, we believe a focus on early prevention in dental care is critical for a lifetime of overall good health.
For children ages 0-19 (no adult care). Kid-Friendly Dental exams, Dental Cleanings/Hygiene Services, Emergency Services, Extractions, Fillings/Restorations, Fluoride Treatment/Varnish and Oral Hygiene Education.
Medicaid and NC Health Choice eligibility assistance through on-site case manager. Spanish-speaking staff. Discount Fee Program for the uninsured (children ages 0-19 only).
