SAME-DAY CARE APPOINTMENT HOURS: 12 noon-8pm, Monday-Friday. SAME DAY appointments are for patients age 12 and up with MINOR injuries and illness. When you call for an appointment, ask if a SAME-DAY appointment is right for you.


We welcome MEDICAID and MEDICARE.  

We are now accepting NEW PATIENTS. Make an appointment by calling 919-833-3111.  We accept all major insurances, but if you are uninsured we offer a Discount Fee Program. Please download an application and follow the directions for  Making An Appointment.

View Map. Take I-40 towards Raleigh to Rock Quarry Road (exit 300). Make a left at the end of the exit ramp. At the second stop light, veer to the left on to Rock Quarry Road. Rock Quarry Road Family Medicine is the first building on the right.

Same-Day Care

When minor illness strikes suddenly and you need an appointment today, we offer same-day appointments for existing Wake Health Services patients, age 12 and up.  Located within Rock Quarry Road Family Medicine, 1001 Rock Quarry Road, Raleigh (temporary location), Same-Day Care hours are 12 noon to 8 pm Monday through Friday.  Same-Day appointments are for minor injuries and illnesses only. Please continue to see your primary care provider at Wake Health Services for chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure and other on-going conditions. Providers

Cecilia Gordon, DO

Dr. Gordon joined Wake Health in November, 2008. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Central Florida (Orlando, FL) in 1996 and her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (Philadelphia, PA) in 2000. Dr. Gordon completed a one-year internship in Family Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia (Augusta, GA) in 2001 and a two-year residency in Family Medicine at the Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital (Greensboro, NC) in 2003. She is board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Gordon speaks Spanish fluently.

Brandy L. Peaker, MD

Dr. Peaker joined Wake Health in March, 2010.  She received her undergraduate degree from the Wake Forest University (Winston-Salem, NC) in 2000 and her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine (Baltimore, MD) in 2005.  Dr. Peaker completed a one-year internship in 2006 and a two-year residency in 2008, both in Family Medicine at the Carolinas Medical Center (Charlotte, NC).  She will also complete a two-year residency in Preventive Medicine at the University of North Carolina Hospitals (Chapel Hill, NC) in 2010.

Sherri’ James-Surgers, MD

Dr. Sherri’ James-Surgers comes to Wake Health from Texas, and brings more than 14 years of diverse leadership and practical experience as both a medical director and a practicing clinician. She managed physicians and clinicians in several medical sectors including community/public health, rural medicine, occupational health, solo-private and large group practice. Married with three children, Dr. James-Surgers recently completed a Masters Degree in Healthcare Management. "In addition to my kids, the accomplishments I'm most proud of are improving patient outcomes and patient satisfaction, and coaching medical staff." 

Sharon (Sam) Cullinan, MSN, FNP

Sam joined WHSI in October 1996. She received her Master of Science degree in Nursing from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, NC) in 1996. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of North Carolina in 1990 and a diploma in Nursing from the Maryview Hospital School of Nursing (Portsmouth, VA) in 1968. Sam is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Enid Tallmer, PA

Enid received her Bachelor of Science degree from Fordham University (Bronx, NY) in 1984. Enid received her Master of Social Work degree from the Hunter College School of Social Work (New York, NY) in 1986. She also received her Master of Health Sciences degree and Physician Assistant Certificate from the Duke University Physician Assistant Program (Durham, NC) in 2005.

Anthony Robinson, PA

 Anthony received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill, NC) in 2004. Anthony received his Master of Health Sciences degree and Physician Assistant Certificate from the Duke University Physician Assistant Program (Durham, NC) in 2007.

Patricia Rickenbaker, LCSW

Patricia Rickenbaker is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 16 years of social work experience and has spent several years working in a rural health clinic in South Carolina. She earned a graduate degree in clinical social work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and trained at Duke Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic. She completed three years post-graduate training at the Southeast Institute for Groups and Families. She trained for seven years in methods of trauma recovery with the Foundation for Human Enrichment and is now a trainer in those methods. She is a member of the American Academy of Psychotherapists and the National Association of Social Workers.

Ekta Patel, MD

Dr. Ekta Patel will be joining Wake Health in August, 2010.  Dr. Patel is board-certified in Internal Medicine. Prior to joining Wake Health, Dr. Patel worked at the Veteran’s Administration clinic in Wilmington, NC, and at Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro, NC.  She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh Medical College in Maharashtra, India, and completed her residency program in Internal Medicine at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.  Dr. Patel is fluent in Hindi and Gujarati, as well as English. 

Tahanie Abu Ahmed, MD

Dr. Tahanie Abu Ahmed will be joining Wake Health in August, 2010.  Dr. Ahmed is board-eligible in Family Medicine. She received her undergraduate degree and Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Debrecen in Hungary.   She completed her residency program in Family Medicine at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Va.  Dr. Ahmed is fluent in Arabic, Hebrew and Hungarian, as well as English.  

Doris Nicolas-Mir, Registered Dietician

 Prior to joining Wake Health, Doris worked at the Aramark-Johnston Medical Center as their Clinical Dietician. She received her undergraduate degree from Florida International University, and her Masters of Public Health from the University of Miami.   She is fluent in Spanish, as well as English. 

LaKeisha Rayner, MSN, FNP

Mrs. Rayner is graduate of Duke University School of Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner.  Prior to joining Wake Health, she was a Registered Nurse in Duke Health System's Endoscopy and Cardiothoracic Units.  Mrs. Rayner has practiced in North Carolina for over 10 years and has extensive experience in emergency room care, intensive care and cardiac care.

Ismael Tamba, DO

Dr. Ismael Tamba will be joining Wake Health in October, 2010.  Dr. Tamba is board-certified in Osteopathic Medicine. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester, NY, his Masters degree of Science in Public Health from Tulane University, and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of the New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Tamba completed an internship at the Crozer Keystone Health System in Pennsylvania and his residency program in Family Medicine & Community Health at the University of Pennsylvania Health System.  Dr. Tamba is fluent in French, as well as English, and speaks conversational Spanish.   

Jim Anderson,DO

Dr. Jim Andersonwill be joining Wake Health in September, 2010.  He is board-certified in Osteopathic Medicine.  Prior to joining Wake Health, Dr. Anderson worked at the University Health Center at Oklahoma State University. He has three decades of experience in a variety of clinical environments including family medicine, acute care and physical therapy.  He is a graduate of the Oklahoma College of Osteopathic Medicine and Dentistry, and completed a residency program in Family Practice from the University of New Jersey School of Medicine and Dentistry.
